Welcome to Wolf Song Designs!
Master Bead Guide
This page is an index guide
to the popular styles of beads I make. I have made hundreds, if not thousands, of styles
and color combinations over the last couple of years. The named styles come from
my early designs. Then I made more designs than I could think of names for
and
just gave up! My customers would want more of a specific style I made and the
only way was for them to give back a bead for a sample. Now all styles are
just a reference number (bummer). Many of the beads I make are special
order for designers. They see a style they like or describe one and then I
work specific color combinations of it for their creations. I hope to use these
pages as a start to make a bead catalog of some of my best sellers.
All of my beads are carefully cleaned of bead release and properly
annealed. My favorite glass is Effete, AKA Moretti but some of
the designs are made from Bullseye to get certain color combinations. Please
read the Lampwork page which gives a brief history of
glass and what to look for in quality beads.
There are
two standard size bead holes. The most common is 3/32" which fits the Omega
chain with small ends quite nicely, and also most leather thongs. This size accommodates most
everything from spacers to focal beads. I even have chain which allows
the beads to be used as lamp pulls. The other size is 1/16" which is perfect for headpins.
Unless otherwise specified, the beads will come with the 3/32" hole
size. There is a third size, 1/8" which I can make on special
order.
Sizes vary slightly according to the style, but generally run
between 13 mm and 18 mm in diameter, the larger being around dime size. I
routinely change sizes to accommodate specific requests. If you need a
large, approximately penny size style (20 mm) or a nickel size (22 mm), it is usually not a big
deal. I can also make the beads matched in size if needed. This is a big
help in making earrings and other designs that need to look even. If you
need to know the exact size of a specific bead, let me know and I'll send you
the exact measurements.
The beads shown on these pages represent some of the popular
color combinations as suggested by my customers. All colors are approximate since each monitor will display them differently. If
you are looking for a specific color combination to match that new outfit and
don't see it, just ask! Let me know what colors you'd like or send me a
sample. There are some occasions that two colors just won't work together
because of how the glass reacts, but don't worry, I'll let you know if you
picked one of those rare ones. Also, since I have four different pallets
of glass, I can sometimes do something with one that doesn't work with another.

Fashion Beads
Textured Beads
All of the beads on these pages will have something
raised above the surface; dots, lines, textures, etc. Some
of the decorations are fairly high (dots) and some have a much lower profile
(lines). Some color combinations are available here that don't work well on smooth beads.
Smooth Beads
All of these beads will be perfectly smooth.
They will usually be on the smaller size, 13mm to 15 mm, but can be made larger
if desired. Some are heavily cased in clear glass for an optical effect. Some
designs are the same as the raised ones but melted flat. The majority of
these beads can be made in the colors of your choice.
Spacers
Small, single color filler beads. The beads are
from 3/8" to 1/2" on 3/32" hole size. 1/16" hole size
is available by request. The picture shows that the beads are very consistent
in size. I had over 45 different colors on the rack at the time.
Please order what you need along with a couple of extras. If you need more
than what you have, I will have to try to match the color. Glass hues vary, sometimes within the same glass order. Also, let me know if you
want them on the smaller or the larger size of the above range. I will
make sure that they all match as closely as possible.
Bitty
Beads
Small multicolor beads on 1/16" hole size.
The beads are from 5/16" to 3/8". I had over 35 different combinations
on the rack at time of this picture. There were six different styles of black
and white. Perfect for earrings and bracelet dangles. The beads are
made all at one time on one or two mandrels so size, color and style
match. I cannot reproduce them individually so please order what you need,
or the whole set will have to made over.
Nature beads
Frogs, Bunnies, Rabbits, Vegetables and other neat
designs from Mother Nature! I make these all year long and try to have plenty at the shows,
but they go quickly. Size varies with style. Custom colors on some bodies
and on the base bead to suit your whim.
Xmas Beads
You will just have to guess what these are. Size
varies with style and on some designs with the hole orientation. Snowman
scarves can be made with your choice of colors.
Sea
Life Beads
Formally fish beads, but I started adding seashells
and I have some designs I'm trying. The bracelet minnows are very popular
because of the flattened fins. They withstand the rough life of bracelet
living better than those with large fins. I have made the fish bodies in
so many colors, I couldn't even start to describe them. The bodies are
solid except for Herbie which is a very large hollow fish. He makes a
great sun catcher as well as a focal bead.
Halloween Beads
Bats, ghosts, pumpkins and other novelties to
frighten you.
Flower
Beads
Flowers on lentils, encased pendant drops and
daisy beads. I have many large encased flower focal beads, but the pictures
don't do them justice. You pick the colors for the base and the petals.

Bare, naked, pictures of beads! Not touched
up or enhanced in any way. Slow to load, but look at how many different
styles and colors there are. So many choices, so little money. Do I want
food or beads this week?
Not for the faint of heart!
These 3 pages are inventory pictures of what I
took to my shows. Specifically, Bead Fest in Atlanta and The Down The Street
Show in Savannah. I have been trying to find the time to take good scans
and organize my beads for this site. If you see me at a show, you will see
several racks of beads. Each rack has 51 spindles with 6 beads of the same
kind on a spindle. I take one bead off of each spindle and make a quick
scan. That way when a style sells out, I have a picture to remake it
by. The choice is coming down to whether I make beads for my
customers or spend the time trying to make this web site look better. You can
guess by these pages which option I choose. I have several customers
scattered around the country who can't attend the many shows I do in the
Southeast. By looking at the pictures, they can see now what was on the
table. Most of the beads have no names or stock numbers. The only
way to tell me what you like is to tell me what number on what row on what
page. I will go back to this site to make sure we are on the same
item. Every few months I scramble all the colors and styles to go
with the seasons or new fashions. When I do, I will add more pages or
replace these. As always, if you see something you like but would like it
in a different color combination or size, just let me know.
If you like what you see on my web site and
would like to see new styles and focal beads that are not posted, check out
my show schedule below.
Thanks
